Mr. Paek went over the differences between Molecules and Compounds, and also the difference between a Mixture and a Pure Substance
Molecule: Any 2 or more atoms bonded together
Compounds: 2 or more DIFFERENT types of atoms bonded together
Mixture: Combo of 2 DIFFERENT types of Molecules or Atoms
Pure Substance: Only 1 type of atom or molecule
We also did a Matter Lab where we drew pictures of what we saw at each station, wrote the chemical formulas of what was present, and then make a list of terms that apply to the station.(ex. Atoms, Molecules, Elements, Compounds, Pure Substance, Mixture)

Announcements: Quiz tomorrow (9/2)
Homework: Measurement 3-6, Lab due Friday (9/2), Measurement lab questions
Overview: Today in class we got started on Measurement Lab 1. We grabbed a meter stick, a ruler, a metal bar, a paper clip, a pencil, a nail, and a plastic brick. We measured our height in meters, did some conversion with m-km and for every km, there are 100m. We then measured the square/rectangular object's dimensions and recored each measurement and multiplied each side by each other and that gave us the volume which is always followed by the units (cubed). We then took out the graduated cylinders and found the volume of things that are harder to find like the nail. Finally we used the electronic scales in the back to measure the mass of each object.

August 26- The First Friday and a Lab Begins

Overview:
The first Friday of the 2011-2012 school year starts of with notes and then a BANG. We started of taking notes on basic science that most of us learned in 8th grade. For example, variables and basic experiment proceeder. We taped in all seven of our note pages for the unit and then took some extra notes on specific variables.Independent- the variable that experimenter is changing (light, temperature, location, ext.)
Dependent- the variable that can be measured (distance, health, size, ext.)
Control- the elements in the experiment that stay the same and stay constant
After notes we started an experiment that nearly gave me a heart attack. We added seltzer tablets to film canisters filled with water. The tablets created gas bubbles and if the seal of the canister we tight then when the bubbles built up the canister popped. It was quiet scary and we made many dents in the ceiling.
