Part Four: (Do HCL only)
Sample A- stays the same, no reaction
Sample B- Stays the same, no reaction
Sample C-bubbles and fizzes, water changes color, reaction
Sample D- No reaction
Sample E- no reaction
Sample F-bubbles, reaction
Sample G-bubbles, reaction

Part Five- (skip densities and do CuCl2 only)
sample a-turns black, melts and bubbles, reaction
sample b- bubbles, reaction
sample c-turned black, reaction
sample d- no reaction
sample e-no reaction
sample f- color changes to green and is warm, reaction

Class on 9/16/11

Announcements: Unit Test on Thursday, Chem Day on Friday

Homework: Finish Web-Assigns before unit test

Body
Mr. Paek went over the differences between Molecules and Compounds, and also the difference between a Mixture and a Pure Substance

Molecule: Any 2 or more atoms bonded together
Compounds: 2 or more DIFFERENT types of atoms bonded together
Mixture: Combo of 2 DIFFERENT types of Molecules or Atoms
Pure Substance: Only 1 type of atom or molecule

We also did a Matter Lab where we drew pictures of what we saw at each station, wrote the chemical formulas of what was present, and then make a list of terms that apply to the station.(ex. Atoms, Molecules, Elements, Compounds, Pure Substance, Mixture)
Black=C
Yellow=H
Green=O

STATION 1
Picture: 6 black atoms Formula: 6C Terms: Atoms, Pure Substance, Element
STATION 2
Picture: 4 yellow molecules(2 yellows bonded) Formula: 4H2 Terms: Molecules, Pure Substance
STATION 3
Picture: 1 black atom, 1 black molecule(2 blacks bonded), 2 green atoms, 1 yellow molecule(2 yellows bonded), 1 compound(2 yellows, and a black bonded) Formula: 2O + CH2 + H2 + C2 +C Terms: Molecule, Atom, Compound
STATION 4
Picture: 1 black atom, 1 black molecule(2 black bonded), 1 black molecule(3 blacks bonded) Formula: C2 + C3 + C Terms: Mixture, Atom, Molecule
STATION 5
Picture: 2 green atoms, 1 green molecule(2 greens bonded) Formula: O2 + 2O Terms: Atom, Molecule, Mixture
STATION 6
Picture: 2 Compounds(3 yellows, 1 black, 1 green bonded) Formula: 2H3 2C 2O Terms: Molecule, Compound, Pure Substance

And THAT is what we did on Friday

Homework: Web-assigns

Body:
Went to Science Lab and registered into ChemThink!
  1. On moodle go to Chemistry
  2. Click "link to ChemThink"
  3. Then below the log-in click the "Not Registered"
  4. Put your username: ID Password: anything
  5. activation code: 6163-2734-5502
  6. Log in as soon as you have completed making an account
  7. As soon as you log in click "Introduction" ; "Particulate Nature of Matter" ; "Tutorial"
  8. Take notes during tutorial then at the end take the quiz
  9. If in one try you get 10 out of 10 extra credit is given :)
  10. Keep trying till you get 10 right!!!
This is what we did all day and if you finished it early you got to do web-assigns :D

9/7/2011 - Measurement

Anouncements : Quiz Thursday on Density and Sig Fig

Homework: 1. Finish Lab
2. Sig FIg Worksheet due Friday

Body : Today in class Mr. Paek went over the homework from last night. It is very important if you don't understand or unsure of anything to go see Mr. Paek to receive help. Tomorrow the class will be taking a Lab quiz. Lab Quizzes are something Mr.Paek gives before a Test to see how your doing on the material in class, it also tells you where your at as well so you know if you should be studying more or not.

Data for Measurement Lab 2
Part 1
2. Mass = 27.06cm, Length= 6.12cm, Width= 1.19cm, Height= 6.12

PART 2
4. mass=1.469, volume of water=5 ml, volume + water object= 5.21

PART 3

9/2/2011- Measurement

Anouncements: Took quiz .

Homework: Do scientific notation 1 page in notebook.

Body: Today in class we went to the computer lab and learned how to use web assign. To get to it go on Moodle and click on web assign link. Once your at the site you need to log in. To log in use your I.D number for the username and password. After we finished with the web assign we went back to class and took the quiz on measurements. At the end of class Mr. Paek taught us how to use scientific notation to help us on our homework.
